Race
night Thursdays at Southend’s only club. Brands Hutch, Leigh-On-Sea's premier
club moving forward every year leaving round and rounders behind in
yesteryear. This is how a race can go on the 131 feet of track with full braking and over 2000 spectators.
Race one; Up steps Mick and Doug. Red driver
chooses tyre choice, hard, soft or wet. Blue next both drivers are unaware of
the others choice.
Tyres are; H for hot weather, soft for warm weather, wet for wet.
Set the fuel computer 18 laps, average 7 liters
usage per lap.
Set tyre wear computer to 18 laps.
Start computers, driver’s check their pit lane controls
are shut, wait for tyre computer to sound engine and random start signal.
Go, go, go, fuel computer show quickest away.
Marshal tells drivers the randomly picked
weather, hot, warm, and wet. This race the weather is warm. Best tyre would be
soft.
Red driver has picked wet
Blue driver has picked soft, correct choice.

Each time the car goes over the sensor the computer
randomly adds between 0% to 4 % tyre wear to that lanes total, individually
calculated for each lane. If the tyre choice is wrong then the computer will
add another random amount, 1 to 3% on top of the normal tyre wear.
Between 0 and 25% tyre wear you will have a 10
second pit stop.
Between 25% and 30% you will have a 12 second
pit stop.
After 30% the computer sounds a warning of worn
tyres and the ads a randomly generated amount of seconds to your pit stop time.
After 38% you are now in the blow out zone, a randomly picked number between
38% and 60% which will end the race and hand the point to the other driver.
Each lanes blow out number is individual.
Fuel is reduced each time you go over the
sensor, the faster the car, the more fuel you use. The fuel computer does the lap
time, best times to 1000th of a second and the scale speeds.
Red lane is roaring ahead but he's picked the
wrong tyres.
Does he go into the pits to change his tyres? He
will pick up a 5 second penalty for the privilege. After 4 laps he's already on
26% and the blue driver is on 12%, what do you do? All of this to think about
you still have to race.
Red driver calls for pits, enters the pits on
lap 5 and 29%.He goes over the tyre sensor setting the timer and his % to 0. He
ops for not changing his tyres and moves over the fuel sensor to start filling
up. Changing your tyres is done by putting your throttle down going to the
computer and hitting the right key. Computer sounds 12 seconds leave the pits.
Blue is now 3/4 of a lap up, tyres are only 20%
but he is running out of fuel. Blue calls for pits, opens his pit lane.
Blue goes over the sensor and starts his pit
stop.
If you miss the fuel sensor and fail to start
filling up you must wait until the computer sounds for you to exit, call for
pits again and then refuel.
If you run out of fuel the fuel computer will
hand you a filling penalty and fail to count a lap thus putting you a lap down.
Red car passes and takes the lead. Get your free race advice here
Blue leaves the pit lane after 10 seconds signal
but didnt filled his tank.
Lap 12 and red is now almost a lap up but
getting warnings and picking up penalties.
Blue is running out of fuel, calls for pit
before the red thus keeping him out to pick up more penalties. Only one car at
a time allowed in the pits. Tactical pit stopping.
Blue fuels and tyres to the end of the race but red is
almost 2 laps up.
Red calls and enters pit lane. Long pit stop as
the tyres have worn to blow out range. 22 second pit stop because of penalties
and the blue is now is in view of the leader because of the length of the pit
stop.
Average lap time of 18 seconds on the 131 feet
of track.
Lap 15 and the race is neck and neck.
Red is still just leading when the computer is
sounding warnings again.
Red goes for the win, last lap, red on 45% blue
just behind on a comfortable 23%.
Red blows out on 52%
Blue wins
Blue 8 points
Red 0 points
Next race will be completely different,
different calculations by the computer, different strategy the next drivers, what’s
the weather going to be?
What racing needs, unpredictable, strategic
racing rather than just pull the trigger
Never the same old same old
5 for win 3 second
8 pints for a lap up 1 to second
Blowout 0 handing 8 points to the winner.
This points system is to encourage racing even when you have been lapped so you can still gain 2 points if you get your lap back.

FAQ
A. We’re not just slot, lap counter, car, and throttle twats.
Q. Our club has eight lanes, timing to 1/10,000 of a second, 26 members and 52 meters of track, that’s better than your stupid 2 lanes.
A. Yes that’s better for the slot zombies who cant race, calculate tyre wear pit stops, fuel consumption and operate their own pit lane.
A. Because no one has ever challenged Brands greatness.
Q. Will I ever be able to obtain Brands greatness?
A. No.
Q. How will anyone ever be better than Brands Hutch?

Q. Can I buy the Brands Tyre Wear computer program?
A. No, I must protect my greatness.
Q. Why don’t Scalextric make a Brands Hutch set?
